Land - The Economic and Social platform for First Nations (NEW UPDATE)
March 16-17, 2010 - Delta Victoria Pointe Resort, Victoria, BC

The certainty of land ownership can manifest in community services and sustainable economic development. How this is accomplished is open to a wide variety of options now facing First Nations in Canada.  Canada’s re-emerging and evolving First Nations face some unique and common issues of economic development, community services and revenue certainty.  Recent and pending legislative changes support the establishment of Aboriginal institutions in Canada designed to accelerate First Nations governance and the self administration of land-based revenue systems.  The International Property Tax Institute (IPTI), in co-operation with First Nations Tax Commission (FNTC), formerly the Indian Taxation Advisory Board, British Columbia Assessment and the Ministry of Aboriginal Affairs and Reconciliation, invite you to participate in a two-day symposium dealing with land as the economic and social underpinning for First Nations.

Conference participants will gain insight and understanding of what is being practiced today and other possibilities that exist to convert Aboriginal land ownership and land use into sustainable services for native people and non-natives alike.
The program will include international speakers who will facilitate the active exchange of issues common to policy makers and specialists in local finance, land registry, property tax, participatory planning, public administration and assessment.  It is open to First Nations leaders, government officials, academics, the international development community and all supporting institutions.
