IPTI 5th Annual Conference
Property Tax Challenges in Asia - Property tax experiences from and for AsiaHong Kong
August 26 - 28, 2002
Property tax has historically been one of the most important sources of revenue for local governments. In fact, property taxation and land policy issues are a matter of growing concern not only to government, but commercial and private organizations as well. On the international front, many countries are presently undergoing local government reforms with the decentralization and rationalizing of public sector operations and privatization becoming even more of an issue. Local governments are facing pressures to increase capital investments and, in order to do this, they must look at a more stable and autonomous tax base. Therefore, the importance of property taxation, and the how’s, where’s and when’s affecting the global community have an even greater impact.
This conference has been planned in co-operation with the Hong Kong Rating and Valuation Department. An international panel of experts will bring insight into property taxation issues worldwide with emphasis on the Asian experience. The exciting city of Hong Kong is the venue for the conference, at the beautiful Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, which allows easy access to hotels, shopping and sight-seeing.
